I kept telling people, "I don't podcast." I was ambivalent, at best, about them. On the one hand, I thought of them as "just radio." On the other, I didn't have time to listen. On my commute, I listened to other things, and at home, I couldn't "just sit and listen."
But when the University of Minnesota Press started a podcast and asked Chris Freeman and me to do one to promote Isherwood in Transit in 2020, we took the plunge. We spoke about Isherwood's literary legacy and publishing history with press director Doug Armato. "Isherwood has been under consistently underestimated, especially in the American marketplace," he said.
